“You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, To show that you are the children of your Father Who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and makes the rain fall upon the upright and the wrongdoers [alike]. For if you love those who love you, what reward can you have? Do not even the tax collectors do that? And if you greet only your brethren, what more than others are you doing? Do not even the Gentiles (the heathen) do that? You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect,” Matt. 5:43-48 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE). This love will only be manifested by the power of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence in the heart of a yielded vessel. Only with divine help will we love with the love of God. Agape springs not from the human heart but from God as the fountain head operating through the human heart of the born again Believer. “Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come,” 2 Cor. 5:17 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE). This is the Word of God and His commandment to love is the greatest commandment. “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets,” Matt. 22:36-40 (KJV). God’s love is the hope for mankind. The scriptures is a message of love and hope from a loving Heavenly Father to His creation. Love is the highest law.
