In order to fight the good fight of faith, you’ve got to use the spiritual weapons revealed in God’s Word. Where many Christians make a huge mistake is ignoring God’s Word and not giving the Word of God the priority it should have in their lives. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you,” Matt. 6:33 (KJV). Seek ye first means seek ye first, not second or third. How can you walk by faith and ignore the Word of God? You can’t, and you’re not walking by faith if you’re ignoring God’s Word because “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God,” Rom. 10:17 (KJV). Again, in order to fight the good fight of faith then you’ve got to use the spiritual weapons revealed in the Word of God and to ignore God’s Word is to set yourself up for failure in this faith fight. In the exposition of Eph. 6:10-18 reveals that Believers be empowered through our union with Him. Then we will be able to successfully stand up against all the strategies and the deceits of the devil. Flesh and blood foes are Satan’s mere tools, the real foe lurking behind them is Satan himself, with whom our conflict is. The Apostle does not mean to say that Christians have no enemies among men that oppose them but that their main controversy is with the invisible spirits of wickedness that seek to destroy them. When we heed to God’s Word then we may be able to resist and stand our ground in the evil day. Truth being our guide and our right standing with God being our conscience we allow the Word to prepare us for whatever engagements we find ourselves in. The shield of faith will extinguish all the incendiary devices flung by the devil. The Word inspired by the Holy Spirit is given to us to use in driving Satan away. The helmet is identified as the Believer’s full hope of salvation. And then finally no matter how skilled we may be in the science of war; no matter how courageous we may be, we may be certain that without prayer we will be defeated.
