The expectation of the Lord on those of us who name the name of Jesus is revealed in His revelation, the Bible. We don’t get to change what God’s expectation is for the people of God, but our responsibility is to say what God says and not give our opinion. Heaven is the government for the born-again Christian who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. The local Church should be a mirror of what Heaven teaches. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven,” Matt. 6:10. Wherever His will is done there’s peace, and order, not chaos and confusion. This is my prayer for the Churches of the saints, that the Lord’s Church be that beacon in our generation. Be that light, that city on a hill, the salt of the earth. These are the expectations of Heaven and our God. We are to stand out. We are different. We’re bought with a price and our lives should show forth the praises of Him who delivered us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. This is the strength of the Church. “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength,” Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV). We are citizens of Heaven and should act accordingly. Our hope is in Him, our Rod and Staff, and our salvation. In Him, we will trust. In the local Church, we should learn of His will and His ways. It’s in the local Church where the renewing the mind process is ongoing because as good soldiers we don’t get caught up in the affairs of this life. “ No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier,” 2 Timothy 2:4 (KJV). But we seek those things that are above, and we set our affections on things above. The one place where we’re reminded about things eternal is in the local Church. Our priorities, if not put in check, can waver all over the place and if unchecked can lead us out of God’s will for our lives. The local Church is where we are nurtured, taught, trained, and expected to live the teachings of Christ, not just to warm a pew. That expectation continues to this day.
