“That ye may be able to stand,” “That ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand,” “Stand therefore,” all reveal in Eph. 6:11, 13, & 14, God’s promise to His people is that when we put on the whole armor of God we will stand. The word “stand” in Eph. 6:11 is from the Greek word histemi, pronounced his-tay-mee, and it means to stand, abide, appoint, bring, continue, covenant, establish, hold up, lay, present, set, set up, stanch, stand, stand by, stand forth, stand still, and stand up. For the Believer, it’s making up our minds whether we’re going to trust God and His Word wholeheartedly or, as the parable of the sower reveals, allow the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the Word and we become unfruitful, Matthew 13:22 (KJV): 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. We, the people of God, are in this world but we’re not of this world. We’ve been bought with a price and belong to God. John 17:15-16 (KJV): 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. The Word of God warns us against the intoxicating effect of the world’s influence and those that are drunk with it have not the love of the Father in them, 1 John 2:15-17 (KJV): 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
