“And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skillful,” 1 Chron. 15:22 (KJV). Chenaniah was over the music because he was skillful. The word skillful in this context means to separate mentally (or distinguish), i.e. (general) understand:- attend, consider, be cunning, diligently, direct, discern, eloquent, feel, inform, instruct, have intelligence, know, look well to, mark, perceive, be prudent, regard, (can) skill (-ful), teach, think, (cause, make to, get, give, have) understand (-ing), view, (deal) wise (-ly, man). Chenaniah was excellent in his gift. Our God is the God of excellence. When the Queen of Sheba saw the excellence of King Solomon she was overwhelmed. “And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built, And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up unto the house of the Lord; there was no more spirit in her, And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thy acts and of thy wisdom. Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard,” 1 Ki. 10:4-7 (KJV). Solomon was a man of excellence. The Church should not only promote excellence but integrity as well. “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men,” Col. 3:23 (KJV). Just as the skill of Chenaniah, and the excellence of Solomon demanded attention, excellence and integrity will glorify God and not mediocrity or a non-chalant spirit. Our hearts should be to glorify God in all that we do. We as Christians must present Christ with enthusiasm and the spirit of excellence and integrity that the world may know that there’s a God in Heaven and He’s the only wise and true God and besides Him there is no other. “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him,” Col. 3:17 (KJV).
