“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding,” Pr. 4:7 (KJV). Here lies a big obstacle to many between their walking in the fullness that God have for them and missing out on the blessings of God. Solomon, in this verse encourages to get wisdom. Wisdom is how to use knowledge. Understanding is to know why and how things are the way they are. To have an understanding of the Believer’s great salvation is to understand the spiritual mechanics of how and why God did things the way He did. I am convinced that when the minds of men receive the full understanding of the gospel message then the light of God will flood their souls. There’s a powerful scripture in Pr. 20:27 (KJV) that reads as follows: “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” God interacts with man through his spirit which was created in the image and likeness of God. The spirit of man was created to have fellowship with the Creator. There’s a void in the spirit of man that only God can fill, Rom. 10:9, 10. Because God gave man a will then he can pervert the filling of that void by attempting to fill it with something else. Some attempt to fill it with drugs. Others look to relationships. But no one can fill this void but Jesus. Just like the eagle that has a built-in gyroscope in the eyes that guides him back to his birthplace regardless of where he may be, the spirit of man is the light by which God connects with him to bring him back home. Back home is being at peace with God in fellowship, communion, and a personal relationship, not religion. And in order for men to find home then he must have an understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Without that understanding Satan will blind to the light of the gospel. “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them,” 2 Cor. 4:3, 4 (KJV).
