The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path but only to them that believe the Word. Yet God’s Word is not a priority in the lives of many. Then there are others who can quote scriptures fluently but their actions betray what they say they believe. In the days of Hosea the prophet the Lord warned that judgment would come as a result of ignorance of His Word. “Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away,” Hosea 4:1-3 (KJV). Then the verse most quoted in this chapter is a warning to the priests for neglecting the law of God and His people. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children,” Hosea 4:6 (KJV). The seriousness of taking God’s Word for granted can be seen in this verse of scripture and the Father’s resolve to hold those accountable who He sees responsible for not teaching His people. His Word is the light from Heaven on our souls and it’s reflected by the actions of those receiving it. I can’t even wrap my mind around what this life would be like without the light, revelation of God’s Word. But God warns us that this is the case in the last days before Christ’s second coming. That men would reject the light of His Word and long for the evil works of darkness. Let us pray.
