So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17 (KJV).
Hearing means hearing over and over again, reminding ourselves of the Word and will of God
over and over again. We can’t just hear the Word once or twice or even a million times and
think that we’ve heard it enough. As Believers we must remind ourselves of what God says to
us, what He says of us, and who He says we are, or we can begin to waver in our faith. Why?
Because God said so. Faith comes by hearing, and if God says that faith will only come when
we constantly and continually hear it over and over again then faith will only come when we
hear it and continue to hear it over and over again. I know personally that over a period of time
my memory will be less sharp if I don’t keep myself reminded of certain important information.
Other less important things I will totally forget about over a period of time until I see it again
and then I remember that information. That’s why it is absolutely essential to our faith to hear
the Word over and over again, reminding ourselves what the Word reveals. This is especially
true as it relates to the tests and trials of our faith. 7 That the trial of your faith, being much
more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto
praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ, 1 Peter 1:7 (KJV). 2 My
brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying
of your faith worketh patience, James 1:2-3 (KJV). 12 Blessed is the man that endureth
temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath
promised to them that love him, James 1:12 (KJV). I know that in the natural we don’t like
trials and tests, but they are necessary because they will show us where we truly are in our faith.
When the big test comes, we’ll know that our faith is genuine because we would have
demonstrated by experience that we have grown to trust God in every situation. 5 Trust in the
LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways
acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths, Proverbs 3:5, 6 (KJV).
