Jude 1:20 (KJV): 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. As we prepare for a time of prayer, fasting, and consecration let us make room for God to give us instruction, lead us, guide us, correct us, help us, and give us the strength to be the light of the world that we are called to be. Jesus said that men should always pray and not to faint, well, we can certainly see why the need for prayer in this untoward generation that we live in. Eph. 6:18 commands us to pray all kinds of prayer, for every situation, and for all saints, but it also says to pray in the Holy Spirit, or as we are led by the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 6:18 (KJV): 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The Holy Spirit helps us in prayer as in the above scriptures, Jude 1:20; Eph. 6:18, but also in other scripture, Romans 8:26 (KJV): 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. The Church needs the Holy Spirit in prayer and not pray in our flesh, or pray only when we feel like it, stop praying when we don’t and let our flesh govern the length of our prayers, how often we pray, and praying in the wrong spirit. My point being we need to pray in the Spirit, in the Holy Spirit, and in our human spirit, but not in the flesh. The scriptures in this Pastor’s Pen clearly reveal to the Believer the part that the Holy Spirit can play in our prayer life or not play depending on our understanding of the Holy Spirit’s responsibility according to scripture as it relates to prayer in the life of the Christian. The Holy Spirit can help us when we may not know exactly what to pray about especially when someone is laid upon our hearts, the Holy Spirit can help us in what to pray for. The body of Christ certainly needs help in prayer in this present generation and generations to come. We need God’s help and we have the Holy Spirit who will help us if we’ll let Him.
