The power of positive confession, prayer, fasting, studying God’s Word, praise & worship, right & wrong thinking, Church attendance, what do all of these have to do with walking by faith? They can be compared to wood that keeps the fire burning. We can be sure of this, that when zeal is lost, commitment to the things of God begin to wane, we’re drying up spiritually, no enthusiasm in spiritual matters, no hunger nor thirst for God, and the things like these become more and more prevalent in our lives then we can trace it back to the neglect of the before mentioned. Peter began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus and focused more on the raging storm. “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me,” Matt. 14:30 (KJV). We walk by faith and not by sight, 2 Cor. 5:7. If Christians are to be victorious then they must walk in sync with the Word of God. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith,” 1 Jn. 5:4 (KJV). To not walk by sight means to not be governed by our five senses. I did not say you deny that your five senses exist but rather that you deny your five senses the right to govern your life. The Word of God is clear that it is impossible to please God in our flesh and as Bishop I. V. Hilliard often says that the flesh is always an unwilling participant in spiritual matters. “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God,” Rom. 8:8 (KJV). And the only way to please God is by faith which comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, Rom. 10:17; Heb. 11:6. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him,” Heb. 11:6 (KJV). In order that we remain strong in faith we necessarily must feed our spirit man, therefore the importance of studying God’s Word, positive confession, prayer, fasting, praise & worship, right and wrong thinking and Church attendance.
