Please see my Pastor’s Pen Live for Sunday, 7-12-20 to go along with this written Pastor’s Pen for more update on COVID-19. Just to update partners of CCC, obviously the Coastal Health District of Ga., which includes Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, & McIntosh counties have experienced increases in COVID-19 cases and deaths. Regretfully politics in this country has resulted in confusion and dismal planning in confronting this pandemic. As of the writing of this communication, Camden has had 255 cases with 2 deaths, and Glynn has had 1,487 cases with 9 deaths. The state of Ga. has had 111,000 cases of COVID-19 with 2,965 deaths. Compare that to 2,977 deaths on 9/11. For the entire U.S., there have been 3,206,477 cases with 134,290 deaths. That’s more deaths than the Vietnam war which had 90,220 casualties and the Korean war which had 54,246 casualties. More conservative numbers have more COVID-19 deaths than 9/11, the Vietnam war, and the Korean war combined depending on your source. My point for sharing this information is to show the seriousness of the situation though there’s much misinformation and confusion concerning COVID-19. That still does not mean that we should take lightly the danger of this virus especially since there’s still much that’s not known about how the virus affects the human body. With numbers rising across the nation, including in the state of Ga., this is not the time to drop our guards. Some states are stopping reopening while some cities are reversing what progress was made towards reopening because there is little leadership from the government. I’m not a doctor, nor am I a scientist, but I don’t have to be to know that when lives are at stake there’s no room for guesswork and I would rather fall on the side of caution and be safe than to make a wrong calculation and it costs dearly. Not 1 life is worth sacrificing unnecessarily when it has been demonstrated that with discipline and proper protocol this COVID-19 pandemic is manageable until a vaccine is discovered or God intervenes. Until then I encourage the partners of CCC to let’s continue to be diligent and not throw caution to the wind for our sakes and the sakes of our families.
