I’ve e-blasted a similar message out earlier concerning the subject of which I will address now in this Pastor’s Pen. Because some of our partners do not receive the e-blasts we’re choosing to address the subject now in this communication. I’ve been asked about communion several times during this pandemic and to address the subject in order that all of our partners would understand my position on having communion while we are confronted with this challenge of COVID-19. I think all of us can agree that these are exceptional times and we must use wisdom in order to insure the safety and welfare of the parishioners of CCC. We’re not having communion at this time for the same reason we’re not having worship services and that is because of the present COVID-19 pandemic we’re avoiding unnecessary gatherings in order to not unduly expose any of our congregation to this virus. I commend the partners who want to be obedient to the Lord’s commandment but as I said earlier these are exceptional times in which we must take care moving forward to protect the congregation of CCC. Many times in the Word of God ceremonial formalities were interrupted for different reasons but it didn’t hinder the people of God because the spirit of those ceremonies were in their hearts, 1 Sam. 21:1-6; Matt. 12:1-6; & Mk. 2:23-27. Jesus instructed that it was more important to do what was right, good, and necessary at the time above the letter of the law. That is what I am attempting to do now, what is best for this congregation. Those whose consciences compel them can still have personal communion in the privacy of their own homes. What’s more important is the understanding of what the communion represents in the sacrificial offering of the Lamb of God, our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ and it’s appropriation in the life of every Believer. When the ministry excels to Phase 3 of the re-opening of CCC the communion will also be resumed at that time. Until then I solicit your prayers and continued understanding moving forward during this pandemic.
