I remember the story of the man in New Orleans who after being stuck on his roof after Hurricane Katrina how he had gotten down to his last can of food knowing that things were getting worse. At that moment he thought to himself that all the time he had been stranded it didn’t dawn on him to call on the Lord for help. He prayed to God and moments later he was rescued. How often do we wait until things get so bad before we think to take it to the Lord in prayer? Not only should we not wait until the last minute to make our requests known unto Him, but our relationships should be such that because of our closeness to Him there is no daylight between us and God. Every Believer should know Him as Jehovah-Shammah, the God who is there. He’s a present help in the time of need. But Father God wants His chosen ones to know that He’s more than just someone waiting on us to ask Him for stuff. He wants to fellowship with His people. He wants to have a relationship with us, commune with us. Remember the promise Christ made in Matt. 7:7-11 where the Lord drew an analogy between an earthly father providing for his children and our Heavenly Father providing for His? “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him,” Matthew 7:11 (KJV). He loves us so much and we miss it when we doubt Him. We would not doubt Him if we truly understood His love for us. If we understood His love then we wouldn’t worry, stress, doubt, or waver from His Word. Keeping His Word is to walk in His love . “ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love,” John 15:10 (KJV). Remain in His love and instead of worrying and wondering about everything, rest in Him and don’t make the mistake that Israel made. “And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not,” Hebrews 3:18 (KJV)
