Today’s message will be our final on the series, “Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.” The earlier messages focused on the Apostle Paul’s appreciation for the messengers and the message of the gospel revealing his heart for the things of God and how through Paul’s eyes he viewed these as “beautiful.” We moved on to how beauty is seen from the different perspectives of people. Even more, how do we let others affect what we see as beautiful, and do we learn to not allow the opinions of others to dictate to us what is beautiful and what is not? In this final installment, we example the life of King David and how he faced the crisis of his day and did not let his negative experiences discourage him, as so many do. Discouragement is experienced by all of us, but how we confront it is a whole different matter and determines how it will harm us or be turned around and used as an opportunity to make us stronger. When we look at the life of King David, he had many opportunities to be discouraged, and in many of his situations, he brought the opportunity on himself. Nevertheless, David trusted in his God through them, though he went through some tough emotional stress going through them. Yet he was able to see past his trials, tests, and self-inflicted mistakes, and see that God was with him. Though he failed in so many ways he regrouped and was able to salvage some grace out of his day-to-day challenges by looking to the God of his salvation. We too can learn from David and many other characters in the Bible, especially our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. How we see ourselves is more important than how others view us during these situations. We must know who we are in Christ. David always practiced the Presence of God in his life. Whenever he found himself in a battle he always acknowledged God which is what made the difference in the outcome of these situations. You and I too, will come out victorious when we stay the course, steadfast, unmovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord, looking to the author and finisher of our faith, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are in Him, and through Him have access to His grace. Let us be mindful of who we are in Christ.
