We’ve begun a new series in our Bible study titled, “Whosoever Believeth.” The Holy Spirit has impressed upon my heart that so often His people fight against the influence of the world’s view and the world’s way of doing things, as opposed to God’s way of doing things. As a people, we must be honest about the influence of the world on our lives. I didn’t say that Believers are following the world’s way, but we certainly are influenced to do so. That influence can be traced to how images of the materialistic society in which we live burned into our psyche day after day after day. These images are pictures that can, over time, begin to seep down into our sub-conscience and affect our perception of reality. We can begin to measure ourselves by the world’s view of things. Christians will start judging themselves by the world’s standards, for instance, by their possessions, status in life, by the size of their bank accounts, who they know, how much power and influence they wield, and so forth and so on. The danger of these is that they may or may not have anything to do with our faith walk. Judging by these standards alone will not determine whether or not you’re in the will of God. These may be a result of His favor on our lives, but the only thing that will determine whether or not we’re in the will of God is doing His will and being obedient to His Word, and that hinges on one thing, and that is actually walking by faith and not by sight. It does not hinge on who I know, where I’ve been nor what I’ve done. By this standard, God’s standard, whosoever believeth may experience the blessings of God in their life. That means the poor man can walk by faith, the rich man can walk by faith, the educated man can walk by faith, the uneducated man can walk by faith, the CEO can walk by faith, the blue collar worker can walk by faith, the black man can walk by faith, the white man can walk by faith, and whosoever will can walk by faith. The only criteria for walking by faith is to believe God’s Word to the point that your actions reflect what you believe and that opportunity is extended to all people and, in fact, to whosoever believeth.
