The principle of authority is so misunderstood in this generation for several reasons, one being people look at authority as one person having the right to rule over another person or persons. Another reason why authority is so misunderstood is because of the abuse of it by those in authority. Neither reason is an excuse to disregard the teachings of the Bible on authority as it was originated out of the mind of God. First of all, all authority come from God, John 19:11 (KJV): 11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power (Greek word exousia, meaning authority) at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. The centurion in Lk. 7:1-9 understood that Jesus had power and authority over sickness and said, “…but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.” The statement by the centurion was so insightful on the power of authority that Jesus acknowledged it, Luke 7:9 (KJV): 9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. The centurion believed that the Lord had the power to heal his servant and because he understood the principle of authority he believed that all Jesus had to do was speak the word and his servant would be healed. Luke 7:10 (KJV): 10 And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick. Jesus was given all authority in Heaven and in earth. He also delegated authority to the Church, Matthew 16:18-19 (KJV): 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. We too, when we understand that Jesus has the power and the authority to do what He said He would, will receive the promises of God manifested in our lives. Amen!
