Romans 1:20 (KJV): 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. Over the past several years I have learned to appreciate the power of this verse in Rom. 1:20. For the most part in my early years in ministry I’ve always put my focus on expounding on the things not perceived by the senses as it relates to the revelation of God’s Word. God reveals Himself by His Word through faith in His Word. But what about when you are confronted by those who confess to be atheists and do not believe? What is our answer to them concerning our faith in God? Besides, the Bible is clear that our flesh cannot discern these things, but they are spiritually discerned, 1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV): 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Rom. 1:20 though, points to the handywork of God in what we do see, His creation. In an increasingly secular society, many people today, especially those in public school or higher education, face intense pressure to reject belief in God. In most colleges and universities, especially in the Western world, a great many young men and women who start out believing in God will eventually end up denying His existence. They are not prepared for the arguments from textbooks and classes taught by atheist and agnostic teachers. Douglas Ell, an MIT graduate in math and physics who also holds a law degree, was a longtime skeptic about God. Yet not any longer. In his 2014 book “Counting to God: A Personal Journey Through Science to Belief” he explains why he now accepts the existence of God. “Each year brings new scientific evidence of wonder, facts for which there are essentially no explanations without God, no believable way around the wonder.”
