“And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day. In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen,” Gen. 22:13, 14 (KJV). This event occurred immediately after the angel of the Lord stayed the hand of Abraham from sacrificing his only son Isaac proving his devotion to the true and living God. God provided a sacrifice in place of Isaac prompting Abraham to call that place Jehovah- jireh meaning “The Lord will provide.” And He is still Jehovah- jireh and He will provide for His people. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” Philip. 4:19 (KJV). The Word of God teaches the Believer to have faith in the divine providence of God. God does His part and our part is to put Him first and all of these other things would be added unto us. “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom, and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides,” Matt. 6:33 (Amplified Bible). When we put God first His promise to us is that He will take care of our natural needs. We’ve got to do our part and be good stewards, not mismanaging what is placed into our stewardship. When we work the principles of God’s Word then His principles will work for us. It’s in our hands to trust in God, as did the father of faith Abraham, that He will provide. “If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him,” Lk. 11:11-13 (KJV).
