“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also,” Jn. 14:1-3 (KJV). The Lord promises His disciples that there is a place being prepared for them where there are many mansions and He will return and receive them that His disciples would be where He is. There’s much disagreement on whether these mansions are figurative or literal. In my studies, I am convinced that the Bible should be taken literally whenever possible and if the language is obviously figurative then let the scriptures themselves reveal what the figurative is conveying. That way you don’t come up with many different interpretations of the same passage of scripture or else we would never reach a consensus on the book of Revelation. The promise of His return is the focus in Jn. 14:1-3 regardless of how the mansions are interpreted. The theme of His second coming is a common thread throughout the New Testament. “Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus,” Rev. 22:7, 12, 20 (KJV). This hope of His second coming is the setting of the message today and the sobering force of all Believers who look to the hills from where their help comes from. Our hope is in Christ, His soon return, and the establishment of His everlasting kingdom. The Lord gave His disciples this promise as an incentive to endure whatever temporal challenges on the road to eternal blessings.
