“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength,” Neh. 8:10 (KJV). Nehemiah encouraged the people during a challenging time for the nation of Israel that the joy of the Lord was their strength. The Jews were in the process of rebuilding Jerusalem and the temple since they had been in captivity because of their sins and rebellion against God, but they were encouraged by the governor Nehemiah and Ezra the priest to be encouraged because, again, the “joy of the Lord” was their strength. How encouraging a word for the people of God today. The blessing for God’s people under grace is that we have His Presence with us at all times, therefore literally, the joy of the Lord is our strength. That is, when we understand our relationship with the God of creation. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law,” Gal. 5:22, 23 (KJV ). Joy is a fruit of the Spirit of God’s presence within. A sure sign of God’s Spirit on the inside of the Believer is the joy of the Lord. A joy unspeakable and full of glory. Hallelujah! This joy that the Believer has, the world didn’t give it, and the world can’t take it away. It’s that joy out of a personal relationship with God. It comes from Him and as long as we have Him we have joy. Praise God!
