Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men, Lk. 2:14 (KJV). Lord, if there was a generation that needs peace, it’s the present. We need the peace that passes all understanding. That peace comes from Heaven. As we embark upon another Christmas season the thoughts in my head finds solace in these words from the angel and the multitude of heavenly hosts praising God and saying the verse of scripture in Lk. 2:14. They were heralding the birth of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. The truth of God’s salvation plan for man has all but fallen on deaf ears, ears that are desperately needing the message of peace. Jesus offers His peace, John 14:27 (KJV): 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The word peace here in Jn. 14:27 means (to join); peace (literal or figurative); by implication prosperity :- one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again. Obviously, the word peace has several meanings like many English words. In another scripture Jesus says He didn’t come to bring peace but a sword, Matthew 10:34-36 (KJV): 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. They’re not scriptures of contradiction but Jesus places peace with God as priority over peace with those closest to us therefore the sword is the abrasiveness between those who accept Christ and those that do not. His peace be with you. Shalom.
