There is a heavy responsibility that comes with the knowledge of God. Having an understanding of God’s plans and will for man means that we now know what the will of God is and are responsible for following His Word or receiving the judgment, consequences, and punishment for disobeying God for judgment begins at the house of the Lord, 1 Peter 4:17-18 (KJV): 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? The closer we are to God the more severe the judgment for disobeying Him and choosing darkness over light, Luke 12:47-48 (KJV): 47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. Why would God’s judgment be more severe on those that are closest to Him? Because they know better. For those of us who know the will of God but choose to disregard His Word, the judgment is even the more severe because we know right from wrong yet still, we choose darkness over light. We are His people and should show forth the praises of Him who delivered us out of darkness into His marvelous light. Others are watching us, and we are to let our lights shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father which is in Heaven.
